MIL-TEC® Softshell Assault Pants

When it comes to cold weather, I will admit that I do not handle it well; in fact, you could say I am somewhat of a wimp about it. In 2020 my father, brother and I leased 220 acres to hunt Whitetail Deer in Western Kentucky. Going into the season we had been warned about how brutal the Winter can be and decided it was time to update our outdated clothing with something more equipped for the job. We all chose to go with the MIL-TEC® Softshell Assault Pants.

These pants have a great comfortable cut that fits tight to the legs so there is no excess baggy material to get caught on brush and have a softshell water-resistant outer making them great for those dewy tracks into the woods on an early morning outing. When you mix in the fleece lining with the two features mentioned above you have a great combination to retain the body heat you are emitting. The best part about these pants however is their ability to completely cut the wind! Anyone who has spent any amount of time hunting, or even outdoors during the winter in general knows that the wind is a killer. Twenty degrees is cold; twenty degrees with a twenty mile an hour wind is miserable. Sitting in a climbing stand overlooking a cut bean field I experienced just this. It was one of those mornings where the tree makes you feel like you are on a roller coaster, and you pray your stand holds up. It was a morning where you don’t even want to move for fear of the wind finding its way in and exasperating the cold, and if you do move it is only to try and catch a sliver of the sun’s warmth cutting into the morning. Without the proper clothing I would have been headed to the house to defrost.

These pants allowed me to sit comfortably without the bone chilling cold you would usually experience; unfortunately, they did not increase my odds on killing a monster whitetail but made the sit less miserable.
